Beyond Morality: The Power Struggle in an Unfair World

NOTE: Today is October 19, 2025. This is a repost from my old blog, "Ang Blog ni McJeff," for archival purposes. I have retained the original date and timestamp.

We live in a world of causes and effects. If A happens, then B happens. That's life. Society, however, made it complicated by indoctrinating us with unrealistic expectations. When we were young, we were taught that good deeds are rewarded, and bad deeds are punished. Well, that's not really what is happening in the world now, isn't it? Oftentimes, nothing good happens when you do good. You're kind to people, but they abuse your kindness. You follow the rules to accomplish a goal, but many people break the rules and accomplish the same thing, and even accomplish more than you do. There's so many wicked people roaming the world, many of whom have acquired so much power and influence, and nothing bad happens to them; while you, trying so hard to be a good citizen, are subjected to so much hardship that it feels like you're the one being punished.

"It's unfair!" we complain, but that's just the reality. Life isn't fair. There is no such thing as fairness. In this world, there is no such thing as justice. It has always been just a matter of causes and effects. You get the effect you want by producing the required cause. And in order to produce that cause, you need power. So, really, in this cruel world, power is the key to everything. Morality has nothing to do with it. There's no hope. It's all just about acquiring power and subjugating those evil forces that are making your life miserable or are standing in your way.

This is why religion—that is, a relationship with the divine—is so important. We all have been plunged into this world inundated by evil, and within us is that intrinsic desire for goodness, for justice, for love, for peace and harmony, and all those noble things. We need to realize that the world is incapable of satisfying this desire. There is nothing in this world that can make us truly happy and content. As long as we cling to the things of this world, we are bound to be disappointed, simply because the world itself is evil. All the good things can only be found in the First Cause, the singular and inexhaustible source of all power, the Just One who placed in our hearts that desperate desire for justice. Prayer and holy obedience seem to be the only rational "responses"—not "solutions"—to the problem of evil. It's what truly distinguishes the righteous from the wicked. And if we are righteous, if we are proactively taking the side of God, then that gives us hope: Hope that at some point in the indeterminate future, the whole world will be judged by God, and our "righteousness" will definitively be vindicated.

I really hope that the total annihilation of mankind happens soon. It's not that humanity is the only problem. The whole universe is very dysfunctional and dangerous. In fact, I feel like all the forces of nature are against me. But humanity is an evil force that seems to implode; not only does it cause harm to the external world, but it also harms itself—its members. Evil people just love doing evil things to other people. It seems to be their nature. They just can't help but be someone's tormentor, someone's pain in the ass. And their favorite target? Of course, those naive ones who still believe that they have to be good in this world no matter what. This needs to stop. This neverending system of bad people taking advantage of good people needs to end. Evil people need to die. I'm glad that death is the fate of us all, but it would be wonderful if it would happen now until nobody else is left.
